This album is the ultimate psycedelic/prog PT experience. One of the best albums in their catalogue, much better than other, acclaimed ones, such as Signify or Stupid Dream. Excellent review, have my pos vote.

Signify's my favorite PT album personally, but this one's good too. The improv passages are always fun, and Stars Die is one of the best PT ballads

what jamie said

and yea on the sunday is a bit underrated, radioactive toy remains one of their best songs but overall the album is a little inconsistent

There's almost no prog wankery with PT in general, their music being much closer either to psych (early) or alternative rock (later). That's the reason why they are disliked by some hardcore proggers.

Also cheese? Here?

This album isn't cheesy at all.

"Wankery" may have been too harsh a word; the split title tracks are too long for their own good and the multiple movements don't segue very well and feel like different songs haphazardly thrown in together

And I did not in any way imply that all Porcupine Tree albums are like this. I have listened to practically every studio album these guys have to offer and Deadwing is definitely my fav album of theirs

Spaceman, Up the Downstair would make a better starting point because it's more psychedelic than this; if you want more prog then this would also make a fantastic starting point
