Lol @ Stale. This album is exactly the opposite, a breath of fresh air in a somewhat stale genre.

Please shut up about the band being christian. it is pretty irrelevant for the album and nobody cares or should care for that matter. also the rating is ridiculous, this is some super generic northlane metalcore.

I find it really hard to find any information on the actual music when reading your review. how are the melodies "much stronger"? how is the instrumentation well executed. what makes the riffs impressive? you mention bass and drums give the album structure, yeah that is irrelevant because of course they do on every rock record. do they do anything in particular that makes them worth mentioning to you?

also the last paragraph doesn't provide the reader with any relevant or actual information and is cringeworthy as fuck.

Inflation is a hell of a drug.

Actually quite liked their last release. Curious to see if this is any better. Though new Norma Jean, Phinehas, and Oh Sleeper will undoubtedly crush this.

You've got some grammatical errors here and there that take away from the reading. Band's ok. Honestly I thought of a mix of Volumes and La Dispute when I heard them.

Gave this a spin and nothing really hooked me. Also the vocals are obnoxiously bad. I don't get the hype at all.

Loving this album, but at what point can we stop calling it "Christian" rock/metal/whatever? At what point did a faith belief become a genre of music? I bet more people would enjoy this art if that label went away as there are many good (or even great) "Christian" act out there creating new stuff. I could see adding a label such as "worship" to acts such as For Today (ie. Worship Metal) or Kings Kaleidoscope as much of their music is worshipful. But, this is simply a group of christians making music, from their worldly point of view.

if you listen to really generic metalcore i can see how this could be considered new and different but in the grand scheme of things this has been done to death in the genre

his vocals suck too

@Mnstorm It's because some bands are actually proud of their Christian faith. Granted not all Christian bands have to be classified as "worship" music but if they want to be labeled a Christian band then I think it's perfectly fine to mention it.

"I bet more people would enjoy this art if that label went away"

I somewhat disagree with this because there are a lot of bands out there that have been particularly popular because they're considered a christian band. Think about it, would a group like Skillet be as popular as they were had they not been so open to their faith?

I see your point but if I were to literally go into such incredibly dense detail (say if the guitar was particularly strong because of a chord that transitioned well into an arpeggio) it would be redundant and even more pointless then what you say the original writing is. I appreciate the criticisms though.

I haven't really had any time to clean this up since I've been pretty busy this entire week.

"I see your point but if I were to literally go into such incredibly dense detail"
- he isn't asking you to go into incredibly dense detail; he's asking you to sell the audience. a lot of the things you say could be attributed to any rock album. dig deeper. get to the essence of what makes this a superb album for you.

"(say if the guitar was particularly strong because of a chord that transitioned well into an arpeggio)"
- why are you so robotic? of course nobody cares about that kind of description. a guitar can be strong because a) it has a great tone that sounds like __, b) it conveys a specific mood, c) it utilizes a certain rhythmic style, etc etc etc.

"For those looking for a metal album that will give you an experience"
- like what? this would be a great opportunity to sum up what you think that experience is

"the somewhat creepy instrumental that leads up to orphan."
- orphan should be "Orphan" since it's a track title

- the reason people are complaining about your constant mention of it being a "christian" metal album is that they don't really see it as being a definitive "christian" release. like, if I claimed to be Buddhist, and released a techno album, is that album paramount to the Buddhist techno scene? obviously that's kinda an exaggerated comparison, but still.

- your reviews can be pretty good at "telling", but often fall short in "showing". I don't need you to tell me this is a great album. i want to be put in your shoes and understand why it's great through your eyes and ears.

I for one appreciated the repetitive "Christian Rock" tag, made it clear that this probably ain't for me.
