I'm not saying your criticisms of his personality are irrelevant or incorrect, but rather that they shouldn't be the centerpiece of your review. Discuss how his personality negatively affects individual songs rather than simply saying something negative about the album as a whole. It's not that your criticisms are wrong in theory, but rather that you fail to back them up with very much that's specific. Try to talk about individual songs and lyrics rather than the album as a whole. Also, when you're reviewing something, objectivity is key. If you're unable to be objective, your final product will be far less effective.

I don't think it's possible to be objective. You just said the review isn't objective because it attacks his personality. I explained his personality is relevant, yet you're still calling the review subjective. You either like Kanye or you don't. You aren't somehow being subjective only if you dislike Kanye.

Yeah I admit I should have been more specific, but honestly this album was so unreasonably bad I don't think I could bring myself to listen to it again.

"don't write for the sake of writing"

This actually pissed me off.

Some of the greatest works of our world have come from writing for the sake of it, to test what we can do with our minds.

You may not have an idea or motivation, but great things can come from the smallest things (smallest things being writing without a purpose or idea)

Lambs is correct, the album is self obsessed and that makes Kanye's persona a legitimate target, as I argued in my review of this

only when it has any bearing to the music tho, which is not the instance on most of lambs' review

I don't think it's possible to be objective

it is possibly to be at least objective to the level of not bringing petty, inconsecuential arguments to ur review tho. site's been through this, many times in fact, gotta catch up bro

You do have legitimate arguments, but they're bogged down by petty name-calling and ranting.

"In reality Kanye is disliked in exact proportion to the amount of *** he needlessly stirs up. He goes out of his way looking to be criticized for attention. His music reflects television culture in everyway imaginable. The sounds Kanye is notorious for are like commercial jingles, created strictly for their catchiness. The maturity of the album is like watching an episode of MTV's Sweet Sixteen, where rich girls throw fits over not getting the right color Ferrari. It's amazing how whiny this album sounds, yet when you look back on it, the worst thing Kanye can recall happening to him is getting his laptop stolen. Kanye's level of phoniness is like watching an infomercial."

That needs to be either deleted or heavily edited; it's a rant, not a legitimate criticism. Cite specific songs. Use more formal, mature language.

"He has basically destroyed any chance of making a good album before he overdoses on drugs. People need to help and pity this man and stop encouraging him, instead he's worshipped by millions"

Where is the rule written that hip hop reviews should use formal language? Isn't a big part of hip hop the informal language?

I don't see what's wrong with that quote. Yeah, I shoulda cited a song and quote, but those are legitimate criticisms. I'm not just making this up... he has a long history of acting ridiculous... these are axioms.

I guess I'm surprised people are actually denying that Kanye is a narcissist. Didn't think any of these claims required evidence.

this is a flawed review but honestly more entertaining than any other review I've read in the last couple days. a lot of the criticisms in this thread are valid-ish but w/e I still don't mind Hil's writing. I don't see the point in antagonizing the guy in the process; he's being pretty reasonable considering the shit being flung at him
