Pet Sounds and Freak Out are both 4.5's in my book so I'm not really sure which one I prefer honestly

yeah the beatles said once that sgt pepper was their freak out. kinda ironic given how poppy and overproduced the former is.

It was specifically Paul who said it, not sure if the other 3 Beatles cared abut Freak Out! in the same way

"I cannot believe how far your tongue is up zappas mediocre bumhole"

the word 'mediocre' made this a really dumb comment, hope that's what you were aiming for

Zappa was clearly a visionary and holy shit 50 years yeah that's ridic. really weird to think about

Pet Sounds is probably better than Sgt Peppers yeah but Sgt Peppers is still great. Within You Without You is def one of my favorite Beatles songs. Fixing A Hole rules hard too

How does One Size Fits All compare to this Ars?

I REALLY prefer One Size Fits All to Freak Out, but I'd be lying if I said this wasn't the more influential/important album. But yeah One Size Fits All is more consistent and has no cheesy doop-wop (which I like, but could have done with less of on this album.)

Oh dang, the doo-wop stuff was like one of my only problems with this album, and this may be my fav Zappa/Mothers album out of the few I've heard.

@daniel: Do you have the patience for a triple album? If so, Joe's Garage

If not... I guess Apostrophe works too

Don't start with Hot Rats, it's a trap

Thanks man, ahah i thought about giving hot rats a spin first, why is it a trap?

Because so many people who start with Hot Rats either never move onto listening to more Zappa or are disappointed that more of his work doesn't sound like that.

It's an excellent album, don't get me wrong, but it's often called "the Zappa album for people who don't really like Zappa" since it really doesn't introduce you to his sound/personality really much at all.
