This album retains some of the alt rock/grunge leftovers from their earliest material, but the songwriting and overall sound has been refined to a tee when compared to Fillet Show. It's my first time listening to this (the 2023 remaster) and after 3-4 listens I can confidently say I dig it and I understand why the band consider this to be their first official release.
On a side note, it's so interesting how "Pewter" reminded me of Deftones, "Firehead" reminded me of Hopesfall and "Scraper" reminded me of both bands simultaneously. Now I can clearly see why they reference Hum as a huge influence to their sound.
