So what if it's not original or real metal or anything? It still rocks hard. Much of an improvement from their last CD, that's all I can say.
Great review though.

Depends on how you look at it.
Much of an improvement from their last CD, that's all I can say.
If this is supposed to be better than the first album, and what I've heard so far is any indication, that's pretty sad.

Their first album was good because it had potential. What's even funnier is I think their demo was better than their first record. Then the record came out and it seemed like wasted potential, so I blamed Jamey Jasta.
And then of course, this album came out, and now I blame the band. This is coming from the guy who was rooting for this band from the start.

Victory Records host some pretty sucky bands; but 'Darkest Hour' and 'Between the Buried and Me' are two of the minority that can be classed as top acts.

Great review. I've never heard the band, but everything I've heard about them screams generic. Why do all these metalcore bands have a hard-on for autumn?
The only good things coming from Victory are "Darkest Hour" and "Between the Buried and Me."

Message to Victory Records:
The world does not need another Metalcore band. The world is suffering very nicely thank you because of Atreyu, Silverstein and Aiden.
Peace

Ugh, Silverstein and Aiden are hardly metalcore, but i get your point.

Silverstein and Aiden are both far from metalcore my friend. IMO Silverstein is a great band considering what they do. Their music might not be spanking original, but it is pulled off very solidly and they continually show improvement. Aiden on the other hand is at a very young age and I feel they are moldable very easily seeing as they are ripping off plenty of bands musically and fashion wise to no end. Hopefully they can find themselves sometime along the road and come into their own.
Regarding metalcore, I do get your point since so many acts just blend together with their blandness and unoriginality. My prediction is metalcore will either undergo a huge change in the next half year or year and be totally re-defined, or will quickly be behind most (who have not already written it off) as just another trend. However the few acts with originality and imagination in this genre could quite possibly save it.

I find the irony of the album title amusing.
Good review.

It is a good damn review but I noticed a flaw; you ragged on the "Embrace The Gutter" solo as if the guitarists in the band played that solo (and it is a damn good solo, one of the best on the CD, come on now). The producer, Jason Suecof played that whole solo. I guess when you're working with that guy, it's a prerequisite that you let him solo on a song, haha, because he produced God Forbid's latest CD and did a solo on that CD as well.
While nothing new, or innovative, impressive, or original, this CD is definitely catchy. Average, I say. But that is not a bad thing. TAO is just making music they enjoy to play, and while it's nothing special, they have a great live show that intensifies the music. I don't care if it's not grim or true or Norwegian, it's a good listen from time to time. As I said before, this CD is much of an improvement from the last record. This is still a young band, and I am sure they will improve much more.
(they bought me beer so I would say all that :p kidding, kidding)

"more reminiscent of a phlegm invested yell"
LOL.
Anywho, as far as the review goes, I always like a review that focuses on the cons of an album, so I know what to look out for.
But I think you focused too much on the cons, and not enough of the strong points.
The truth is, i really liked this album, a lot better than their first.
And not to really defend anyone, or take sides, but isnt metalcore a subgenre of metal?

Look at the rating I gave it, 1.5/5 Judging by the very poor rating would you think I'd have a lot of strong points to talk about? And yes metalcore is a subgenre of metal with some hardcore traits and I'm going to go tight lips now before I engage in a genre dispute. This Message Edited On 08.19.06

Well nonethless, to make a good balanced review you should list some things that coudl attract potential listeners to the album.
Even if you did hate it.
But, Im not one to talk so Ill just shut up.
either way, good review.

Why is it that so many people look for the bad in music rather then the good? Lets face it, metal isnt really an "intelligent" genre, so why keep expecting something groundbreaking from it? Anyways this is my first album from them and I love it! And I also think that mindless shredding comes from bands like Slayer, not these guys

Yeah in a way but I think Slayer makes the shredding like that work. There music is just so darn fast anyways their solos just flow right in with it. If that makes sense.
