Always thought this was so underrated

Of all their works this is definitely not the underrated one ahah. What Toto albums have you heard?
|
| |
Honestly, this is the only album of theirs I've listened to in full. I just think the average rating is pretty low.

This is doing pretty well for the number of votes it has, I'd say. Also for the majority of people this band seems to begin with Hold the Line and end with Africa, it's such a shame. One moment they play some heavy hard rock, the other they lay down a cool jazz piece with Miles Davis. So underrated it hurts.
"Is this the band that made the song about africa?"
No, you're thinking of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV36OEBWRvU

Sure just don't consider it the archetypal Toto album

Last brilliant Toto.

Very good album but the opener and closer are about the only two memorable tracks

Nah man can't agree. Afraid of Love, Lovers in the Night and Africa are the clear highlights in my eyes. The first two because they actually rock out, the last well it's Africa. It's a Feeling is pretty cool too, I dig the somber sound.
Good album but it has the most inoffensive music in the discography. I rarely jam it in full, and I jam Toto basically everyday haha. Bottom tier Toto easily imo

My fave is probably Seventh One with this being a second. What's yours Sab?

My opinion of Seventh One is similar to IV. That said it has a couple of my favorite Toto songs, like Home of the Brave and Only the Children. Mushanga too is one I love. If you haven't yet, take a look at the title track, it was a Japanese bonus track for some reason. Oh and the production is mindblowing.
"What's yours Sab?"
My personal favorite is Isolation because it strikes a balance between a lot of stuff while keeping it short and sweet. I'll spend more words on it when I'll review it, it's the next in my Toto reviews. Who knows when though. I may drop a list if I stay silent too long

Anyhow looking forward to it. Haven't heard Isolation in ages, will have to revisit.

I don't expect anyone to love it as much as I do. Its balance between catchiness and curveballs I find basically perfect. For that unique balance in a sense Isolation is not the best representation of why I love Toto. Generally I love when they embrace their eclecticness, that's why I'm not the craziest fan of IV, Seventh One or s/t. They just aren't as interesting as the rest in my eyes (still dig though!). I mean IV was literally made because they were ordered to record a hit album

Check the 5.1 SACD, even better. The little piano melody leading to the chorus makes it more satisfying than the original imo

Is this or any of their albums genuinely good? Because i adore 'africa'
