aparently this album hasn't done too well sales-wise, since there's rumours of the band being dropped by their label. hopefully this means returning to fat wreck or no idea. which means no more horrible over-producing!

Hopefully back to Fat Wreck, won't necessarily make the music as good as it used to be though.
Good review btw, just read it *out of the loop*

thanx man. i know the move of labels wont necessarily change the music, but i'd be happy with an album like this one, but with better production. however, the lack of major label pressure would probably make for a slightly heavier (i.e. less poppy) result anyway.
its hard to say with LTJ though, some of their best work has been on major labels, and some has been on indies, so its hard to predict how it would change them.

I heard the singles for this album and I nearly cried. LTJ is doing the greenday thing it seems.
i share the exact same opinion, greenday went to shit and ltj are doing the same, i hoped they'd stop after I heard shes gonna break soon but they just got worse and worse!

Im a huge less than jake fan have been for years! and I feel in with the out crowd is badly underrated! They had fresh new ideas! the whole album from start to finish is a classic! Not many less than jake fans agree! but they did a great job on this alum!! well done less than jake!

I thought this album was painfully average upon first listen, but I actually really like it now. Give it a chance.
I think it's better than Anthem for the most part. But then I thought Borders & Boundaries was some of their strongest work, whereas some fans feel they were going downhill with that album.

well the rumour of a label-change is true, they've left warners. and they said in a recent news update video thing that they'll "make an album you guys are gonna like this time!" so we could finally be in for a return of the ska!

^ Good news.
I've tried getting into this album on numerous occasions but couldn't ever (with minor exceptions).
The tracks are good enough but I would listen to one song and then remember how old LTJ sounded... then go listen to Hello Rockview or something.
Good review by the way.

Where did all the super catchy ska songs go?

I agree that LTJ has strayed from their ska-core roots but why not take this album for what it is? LTJ have evolved their sound and whether it is going to stay that way who can say other then LTJ. Agreed this is maybe one of my least favorite albums but like I said look at it for what it is and you actually find a rather solid album. I only say this because it has received a fairly low rating which I feel is rather inaccurate. At any rate I would suggest other albums over this one for a new LTJ fan.

Did Mark Hoppus from Blink 182 really write Rest of My Life? It sounds similar to other Blink songs so I would not be surprised.
I got this off Wikipedia about their newest album, GNV FLA (Gainesville, Florida):
"It's a return to form that could be called the “traditional” Less Than Jake sound, complete with their trademark bouncy ska grooves and horns galore, GNV FLA comes full circle with the band’s beginnings, when they were scrapping up money from gigs to augment their Pez collections."
I like the idea but I don't want them to copy what they had before. Does anyone else think they might do another "Feeling more dead than alive" or "he/she's only nineteen" with the lyrics? Or maybe recycle some old riffs or horn parts?
Again from wikipedia here's the track listing:
1. City Of Gainesville
2. The State Of Florida
3. Does the Lion City Still Roar?
4. Summon Monsters
5. Abandon Ship
6. Handshake Meets Pokerface
7. Settling Son
8. Malachi Richter's Liquor's Quicker
9. Golden Age Of My Negative Ways
10. The Space They Can't Touch
11. Conviction Notice
12. This One's Gonna Leave A Bruise
13. The Life Of The Party Has Left The Building
14. Devil In My DNA
What do you think?

i'm looking forward to GNV FLA, but then again, as this review shows, i'm one of the few who likes pretty much all LTJ's material.
i can't remember where, but i did read that the lyrics are going to be a little more serious in places, about the lives of people in gainesville - issues and troubles they face, etc. etc. which says to me that they're going to be grittier more serious lyrics, like some of the ones on anthem, which is a good thing IMO. they'll inevitably use the old "leaving town" cliches, but then that's become a trademark for them, so i feel it can be forgiven.
as for the whole recycling parts thing, i'm not sure. i can't think of many LTJ songs with recycled parts (obviously not including the songs they've re-recorded!). also, they seem to enjoy playing their bouncier songs live, so i'd imagine they'd put more thought into writing the parts for their favourite songs.
as much as i like the ska material, i'd also like to see them have a go at some full on metal. they're all metal fans - just listen to the two slayer covers they did about a decade ago! - and now that they're much more proficient with their instruments than they were back then, it's something they could pull off well, especially with the horns there to add some extra texture. This Message Edited On 05.02.08

come to think of it, I think you're right about them not recycling riffs or horn parts.
the only instance I can think of is Soundtrack of My Life when they used the riffs from Gainesville Rock City and Portrait, but even then wasn't it intentionally put in there for nostalgia's sake?

It feels really okay... like nothing special. To me its sort of like bubble gum.
But you know good review and all.

I really enjoy this album. Yet it isn't as raw and really not ska, but its top level pop punk. I know that's not what a lot of fans wanted the band to do but it's still a great album.
