not my favorite free jazz by a long shot but amazingly well executed nonetheless

Wacky, though not as insane as other free jazz I've heard so far.

I prefer this one as a whole to TSOJTC but Lonely Woman is still his best work. Nice bump @tec

Love TSPJTC but haven’t given it an honest spin in probably five years or more. Gonna rectify that soon (hopefully).

this is definitely a much different beast but I find this much more engaging and diverse than SoJtC

my first real shake at free jazz, loving this so far

we fall prey sometimes to the feeling of "oh this isnt as groundbreaking or crazy as i expected" or whatever

its a feeling that can often be ignorant of the real chronology and development of things

I have no doubt that Shape was groundbreaking for its time. it's just that a good bit of the record just isn't the jazz I'm looking for right now, I think

this is much more along that vein, on the other hand

This is actually pretty easy going for free jazz I feel like, the instrumentation itself is rather conventional by free jazz standards, almost more post-bop, and there’s just two bands playing on either side.

Super engaging record and a lot to dig into, but not as sonically alienating as other free jazz can get

Can never miss an opportunity to plug my free jazz list:

Gave this a “freedom rating” (take that for what you will) of 2.5/5, porc is basically spot on. Much tamer stuff exists, but so does far more sonically bombastic stuff. This is honestly probably somewhere close to the center in terms of overall approachability.
