Yeah, I think you're right Twig. Unfortunately E.L.P. have lost a lot of respect since their heyday. Anyway, even in their heyday, they never were a band for all lovers of good rock due some of their excesses. As we both know, they always were an excessive band somehow. Many, always considered them a too pompous rock band, which isn't properly totally wrong. However, I always loved them too. Their first four studio albums and their two first live albums are really great. And, of course, we mustn't forget the influence of their music in the following generations, besides their contributions to turning classical music more accessible to the usual listener, which this album is probably the best example. If we join their great skills as performers, we have really one of the greatest prog bands ever.

Thanks man and cheers.

I would call it good showmanship instead of "excesses" ;-) but I understand what you are saying. I think you have hit the nail on the head. Sometimes he goes over the top, and it can get cheesy. How one feels about that will greatly determine how they feel about ELP.

I just think ELP were a tad inconsistent. Usually wasted their creative energy on the longest track and had a bunch of filler, like dream theater

Even though I like them, there are very few of their albums I will play through from beginning to end--so I agree.

Yeah, somehow both are right. Anyway, all these considerations don't take off the great importance that they had in the movement of the progressive rock, even today.

This is easily my favourite ELP album to listen to as a whole.

I've read in a Prog Archives review that ''...the trio had the audacity to do it in 1971 when prog rock was still young, showing the way to other musicians who were afraid of crossing some limits''

So yes, when e21 is saying ELP's music is very influential for the generations to come, he speaks the truth.

Splendid, guys. I can see that we are all in agreement. These guys were really great when their music could shine, before of their great individual egos and the punk rock movement turned them in an ordinary band.

Usually I consider them as one of the ten most influential bands in the prog rock movement. The others are, without any kind of order, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Camel, Gentle Giant, Van Der Graaf Generator and Rush. They're also, perhaps my favourite prog bands, too.

I also always loved ELP. Unfortunately, this isn't a very common feeling between prog fans. Many, consider them a very elitist and bombastic group.

About this album, I always thought that it's a great album. I agree with you. This was a great contribution to making the classical music more popular between rock fans.

Great review. Pos.

Thanks, man. I'm glad due we have the same opinion about one of the greatest and one of the most important prog bands of the classic period.

Cheers.
