"What's the appeal"

Aside from blatant nostalgia for Storywriter (as explained on our chat on last.fm), I enjoy the electronic aspects of it. I didn't really care much for Strobolights or I on first listen, although Strobolights is one of my favorite tracks now, although I is probably the weakest song on the album (and really didn't need to be 6 minutes). It's a lot more refined than Futurama although they went all the way and overhauled their sound quite a bit on Answer, which is a great record to end it with. tl;dr I like it because its shoegaze aspects are a lot more downplayed in favor of refining the electronic aspects of Futurama into a concise record.

That's all fair Fripp. I'm not going to say this is objectively bad or anything, in fact it's definitely good, just not really my thing. Will try it a few more times though.

The first two and last two tracks were the ones that stood out most.

good picks, Starline & the last two are superb. There's a sweet live clip on YT of them doing a super shoegazey ending to Silent Yaritori that goes like 10 minutes, it's stunning from what I recall

also the High Booster live album (promoting the Highvision album) is fucking sweet and a lot more shoegazey, Boney

Sounds neat but tbh I'm not that interested in digging through their discog for the more shoegazey material given how much other gaze I have to listen to.
