Don't have any real strong feelings for the movie, but kudos to Esperanza for making a song from that movie that damn great.

Didn't know it but I got the deluxe version and the track after I Want it Now is actually a better closer to the album.
So guys, strongly recommend to listen to 'Change Us'

Always been a big fan of contemporary r&b but there's just so much shit to filter through

Yeah there's a bunch of boring stuff in the contemporary scene rn, but the Alt R&B and Neo-Soul scene has always done well for me.
|
| |
i must jam this. :]
cont r&b is a mixed bag, it's not so much the bad stuff out there, but there's way too much mediocrity. same goes with alt r&b really: even the best of alt r&b has to finely walk the line of being sparse, patient, and emotive yet detached - with being flat out boring. it's been too long since i've found a decent alt r&b album tbh.

Yeah you have a point with Alt-R&B, I'm getting pretty tired of this etheral shit that The Weeknd made cool.
You also have a good point with checking this out, in that you totally should ;]

It's not as an inconsistent genre as trip-hop but yeah, too much mediocrity. In a way, I feel like it's actually better through singles rather than whole albums, bar some exceptions of course.
|

honestly, at this point, i ain't even worried about finding trip hop at all. almost every example i come across is just unimpressive (obvs barring the classics).
i will not argue whether or not the weeknd created alt r&b (there's a ton you debate here) but he is undeniably the most influential artist in the popularization of that movement. considering he's almost abandoned that niche he helped create, it'll be interesting to see when/if alt r&b will start to approach different directions that don't reflect his trademark style.
personally i really hope so, but we'll see i guess. :]

I wasn't necessarily say The Weeknd created alt-R&B, as the genre is pretty broad in the way Alternative Rock is a broad genre. But he did popularized the type of Alt-R&B that is most popular rn.

I'd argue that FKA twigs is currently spearheading alt r&b

i'm pretty okay with that assessment, she's pretty darn popular, important and has a distinct style - for better or for worse.
