one of the great things about ye is he is pretty fucking real in / with his music tbh
you don't get a lot of soul exposure in hip hop rap pop but you def get it with ye

the 30 second streams of the individual songs sound horrific, the autotune on Highlights... :[

Scream you make a real valid point. The record feels extremely bi polar an I love it. In one line he talks about not wanting attention but in the next fears not getting said attention. That duality of humans an our self destructive an contradictive nature is on full display here.

"people just love to hate kanye and when you go into something with preconceptions you generally arent going to look at the thing objectively"
What an profoundly arrogant statement. "People just love to hate the thing I like and they end up disliking it for completely arbitrary and wrong reasons because they go into it with preconceptions."
Don't you see how this statement is deeply rooted in YOUR preconception that the stuff you like must be objectively good?
Also yeah, it's great that he's real in his music I agree. "Real Friends" for example is great and his "realness" contributes to that song.

ed go fall off the fucking earth kid my statement was completely appropriate and accurate re: bias in things
|

I think the point it being real isn't a justification of why it's great but more so from the perspective that people find it refreshing and easier to relate with such a well known artist really putting his flaws on display for people to see.

yeah for sure, especially within this genre
thats what made ye so great right from the get go in the early 00s, guy making soul exposing real music in a genre that was at the time completely dominated by party rap / gangsta / crunk etc

That explanation is also why I am such a big fan of the Yeezus record.

Calm down grandpa.

Ed, you kinda jumped to conclusions. Chuck wasn't being automatically dismissive of everyone who dislikes this.
1) plenty of ppl do "love to hate" Kanye. fact.
2) if you go into an album thinking about his IRL persona, you might hate the album unjustly. fact.
there's plenty of exceptions where people simply dislike the musiq, and Chuck obv knows that

"Ed, you kinda jumped to conclusions. Chuck wasn't being automatically dismissive of everyone who dislikes this. "
exactly
and sorry i dont have the patience to deal with the someone unable to grasp simple context
once again, the original statement was clear and coherent and true for bias across the board in art, and IMO it often applies to how people view kanye's work
i think that in itself is a pretty obvious thing HOWEVER i was not implying that everyone that doesnt like kanye's music is just being biased re: his persona

Arcade what did you make of the Gesaffelstein album? Seemed to me that a lot of my favourite musical moments on 'Yeezus' were expanded on that

'Aleph' is a patchy album but when it hits the mark it's killer
evil sounding techno noir that doesn't mind smacking you round the chops too
