Thanks Dan, wasn't expecting the feature :D
Arch have you checked anything else from their discog?

Not yet, just starting their self-titled now though :]

I've been listening to 'simple pleasure' a lot recently, it's more 'soul pop', maybe their most instantly appealing album
|

Gotta listen to this. Nice review. Have a pos.

Great review man, this looks interesting and that sleepy vibe interests me

Thanks Jiggly, Scuro
ALA - the debut is more indie/experimental, the second album is more strings/ballads and 'simple pleasure' is more soul/pop. All three are worth a listen, take your pick.

Hey Lucinda is great

Hype, this album was stunning performed live. The films they recorded for each song worked well too, 'Second Chance Man' and 'Like Only Lovers Can' sounded like absolute classics in this context

Giving this another spin while working on my 2016 list. It's interesting to compare and contrast it with the new Lambchop album--especially the vocals. They're doing something on this album to make the vocals more slithery (especially "Second Chance Man"). I couldn't tell you how they're doing it, but I like it.

After seeing this performed live I was so tempted to bump this to a 4.....3.7 or a 3.8....slap bang on the boundary this one
The vocal effects are great on that track - How He Entered is still my favourite on this, top 10 song of the year for me

I bet they were great live . . . I had a hard time digesting this earlier in the year, but I'm really enjoying it now. Sometimes I have to stop playing an album for awhile to get into it.

That's it, seems very samey and indistinct at first and then it creeps up on you. Even the short instrumental with the brushed percussion is so evocative for me now

Bumped this and the Shearwater up from 3.5's - including the review ratings. Think at the start of the year I was being hyper critical and both albums have grown on me

I was just on my way to the Shearwater. I suspect I agree with you on the rating.

I rated this below The Something Rain which I have at a 4, that was my thinking for my original review rating...but now I think this is just as good in its own subtle way.

Lol, rating the albums isn't the hard part, cross referencing the ratings so they make sense against all the other ratings--that's the hard part!

'Even the short instrumental with the brushed percussion is so evocative for me now'
Doofs gone wanker.
