What's wrong with the coverart, it's Abbath's face in all its grim beauty.
I really wish the guitar sound would be more frostbitten and piercing. Where is the trebling glory of the old Immortal days?

I thought this album was terrible; boring, safe and predictable. None of the songs have any bite to them, it's like black metal-lite. Your review was really good though. I wanted to enjoy this because Abbath is such a fun part of the black metal scene, but I couldn't get into this at all.

I don't think it's fair to ask for more "bite" in this album. It's more rooted in the traditional metal mantra of "are these riffs fun?" versus the black metal "does this conjure up a cold, unrelenting atmosphere?" Taken for what it is, it succeeds on the first point.

Then he should have put on an album like the one he did with "I". The riffs here are so boring. And it's a black metal album; despite the mentality he went in with writing it, if he chose that genre to play, it should have some element of it present within the writing. These are just Sons of Northern Darkness riff b-sides with half of the luster.
