From here I may just go through the rest of their albums chronologically, though I may try out How I Quit Smoking first - then again looking at it that's only their second album so that would be up next after their debut anyways.

Yeah, starting at the beginning is no bad thing - the debut is a 4-4.5, 'smoking' is a 4-4.5 and then 'what another man' is a 3.5-4.
Thriller is a bit meh on my first impression but again, need to give it a proper chance.
I got a copy of the double album 'Aw c'mon...' last week...hasn't really done too much for me as of yet. A lot of instrumentals.

Plus I've given the Kort album a listen recently, a very country thing. Might just pick up a copy as its a bit of an obscure one (like the HeCTA electronic side project).

I'm sure it'll be an interesting ride no matter what
I've got some big discographies lined up for this year what with planning to finish Lambchop, Cass McCombs, Richmond Fontaine, Flaming Lips, Animal Collective, Spiritualized, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, and so on - should be a good year!

I'm guessing Kort is a Kurt Wagner side project? I'll probably investigate the HeCTA as well.
Forgot about that Josh Rouse collab, you recommended that to me last year. I've been meaning to check Rouse's Nashville album as well.

'Lambchop's Kurt Wagner and Cortney Tidwell Team as KORT for Country Covers Album'
If you want to hear some country duets with Kurt playing it as straight as he ever goes then give it a try

Hm, sounds interesting though I generally have a pretty low tolerance for duets, but I bet Kurt could pump out some good ones.

Not all the songs are duets. I've only spun it once, didn't blow me away but was all very tastefully done

Ok good that's promising. I probably won't prioritize it but if once I finish the Lambchop discog I'm desperate for my Wagner I'll give it a listen.
Duets have such a tendency to be so sickly sweet but when they're done right I dig em. My favorite country duet is probably Steve Earle's "Poison Lovers", classic tune that.

Not heard of it, I'll give it a go. Tindersticks have some standout duets

I'll have to throw you an Earle album at some point, I've only heard about a third of his discog but he's a pretty classic alt-country songwriter. As I said above I plan to finish his discog this year, hoping to find some more gems in it.
Tindersticks as I've said a thousand times I'll get to one day, I need to finish a lot of those artists mentioned above first though.

When 'Flick' is the worst song on your album you know you've dropped a classic

Can't rate the tunes yet but that's a very very good ranking, the top 5 are definitely my top 5 for now (though not in that order necessarily) and the bottom 2 are definitely my bottom 2 (in that order). The rest are still sorting out a bit.

"Flick" is decent but it definitely drags a bit. Great lyrics though. "D. Scott Parsley" is the other way around, the lyrics are kind of weak but it's a fun, catchy tune and a nice way to break the album up without ruining the mood a whole ton.

Thinking about it D. Scott feels like it could have been a Nixon outtake but on that album it would have been elevated a bit more by a string arrangement, here it feels like it's missing a little something but it's growing on me gradually.

With D. Scott I quite like the scratchy guitar tone and the ramshackle way the other instruments decide to join in as the song progresses. Listening to it in isolation it's fine, it just feels like a lesser song in context of what surrounds it.

It's a great little tune for sure but yeah I imagine it works better on its own.
