Good review, glad to see a more realistic take on this album. It's a classic but definitely not as tight as some of the albums that came right after it. I agree about the filler tracks (8-line Poem and Song for Bob Dylan).
I do love Bewlay Brothers though.

Eight Line is a perfectly placed short segue type track, if its filler its filler with a purpose
I have more problems with the fluffy trio of lightweights Fill Your Heart, Warhol and Dylan all forming a little cluster of 'good but not great' that kills some of the album's momentum and stature

The phrase "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" comes to mind. The album works, even though some of the songs can appear to be 'filler' on their own. No matter how you spell it, "Bewlay Brothers" is great!

This album wasn't even considered a 'hit' in the 70s. Hit singles, yes, but not a hit album. In the 90s it found its audience and started showing up on best-of lists.

@ArsMoriendi thanks a lot for the compliment, I have it on my mind man, since I'm getting more and more acquired with hip hop from this age. any suggestion in whatever genre would be welcome
@evilford thanks for the catch man ;)
@DoofusWainwright I get what you're saying, it's just that the verses are not too memorable imo from a purely melodic standpoint. the antithesis is fantastic, though. probably gonna rephrase that in the review cause it seems like i'm criticizing the antithesis and not the melody ;)
@wobbysobby ditto
I'm gonna let the Daniel Day Lewis' fight for the time being, now. Salute xD

I just wish 8-line Poem was shorter, I guess. It shows its whole hand in the first 30 seconds or so and then just kinda trails along. I agree it's a cool segue/breather track and it's got a nice lounge-y feel to it but...I dunno. Unless I'm doing a full listen of the album, I usually end up skipping halfway through.

@TWIGtheWONDERKID it's a lot like exile from the stones to me. The filler is there, not annoying, but not to be loved either. It all works, though.
Also, I didn't know about the reputation of the album in the 70's. Most interesting ;)

@wobbysobby true, three minutes is too long for a tune like this.

I should have probably said in the US. It did much better in the UK: #57 US, #3 UK.
