This is a ton of fun, definitely not particularly insightful or full of clever songwriting, but honestly this band has never been known for either of those things.

"She said you're just like Mike Love/But you'll never be Brian Wilson" is probably the most self-aware line on here... it actually articulates the (minor) faults of the album pretty well. Brendon occasionally tries to be too clever with some of his songwriting and it falls a bit flat, his strengths are in catchy hooks and as a frontman rather than depth of songwriting or great insight. When he starts to veer too much into the lyrically dense direction, he could stand to remind himself that he's more Love than Wilson.

Really the bookends of the album are the worst songs. Victorious is so grating and vapid and tries to hard to be fun, and the last three tracks are a snore. The rest is a lot of fun, but doesn't have much replay value.

Yeah, not to just shit on this band that some people clearly like, but have they ever done ANYTHING that could be considered groundbreaking? I mean, at least when they got popular, they basically sound like a Fall Out Boy clone formed in a drama class. They're pretty derivative, imo.
