Bowie himself had tied up all the loose ends releasing The Next day, Nothing Has Changed and Blackstar - there really is no need for any posthumous 'Bowie product' for a very very long time.

Of course a lack of any need probably won't stop them. A commemorative version of this album released at the end of the year with a different cover/notes and the videos included I could just about understand/stomach - anything more would just be typical grave robbing.

What probably would stop them is Bowie's team. Seeing how the man has built a foolproof defence around his own private life in later years I'd say his legacy is in firm and trust-worthy hands, be it lawyers, publishers, management, whatever. I think they would pretty much suffocate any unauthorized release in the concieving stage.
What could happen is the Queen scenario though, where post-humous releases (well, one of them anyway) were pretty much Freddie's last will. But that can only happen in case such pre-arrangements have been made.

Great piece, at least we know Bowie's in heaven now, farewell and rest in peace.

Blackstar is not an album. Blackstar is a eulogy, and the most powerful statement of one of pop music's most powerful careers. David Bowie was not a man who could be defined in life; he remains undefinable even in death.

RIP

Fantastic write-up by the way. Brought me close to tears; not the first time this morning.

The fact he crafted this with cancer and no one knew adds a whole new level of depth to this record.

Bowie has always been up there with the most important musicians to me. I've been listening to this so much in the past 3 days but I can't bring myself to re-listen to it anytime soon. rip hard
