Nah man Machine, Divergency, Illusionist and Vengeance are all better then anything on here. I dig this album but I'm huge BOO fanboy and TWDA was awesome imo and this album just didn't hit me as hard as that album.

Source Field, Imaginary Condition and The Origin are the only songs worthwhile off TWDA in comparison to their other material. This album kicks the shit out of TWDA, the solos are actual tasteful and not bullshit scale wankery.

Really interesting points Kyyzen. I essentially agree despite the review somewhat saying otherwise. I have been meaning to listen to The Discovery and Soul Sphere back to back to see how that is.
And you really think Higher Place is their best? I thought overall it was weak but honestly only heard it once! Maybe I need to spin that again..
And bloc yea I might. That effort really surprised me.

I think AHP is their best too lol

I feel like this album is what TWDA should have been. Its like if they took TWDA and didnt completely regard what they did on their first 2 albums. I think it's pretty cool tbh. definetly not as good as the Discovery or A Higher Place, but I'd say its on par with The New Reign and leagues ahead of TWDA

nevermind this sucks

I was talking about TWDA being scale wankery...Machine, Vengeance and Illusionist all just play a sweep picking scale over and over for their leads.

I think TWDA is underrated and gets a lot of hate it doesn't deserve, but this is way better. More accessible sure, but it sounds massive to me for some reason.

Dmax - Yeah, a higher place is my favorite release by them. It wasn't at first but it's really grown on me the more I listen to it. I, like you, thought it wasn't much on first listen and kind of threw it out. Then decided to start listening to it again randomly after a year or so. Now it's something I listen to once a week pretty much. Lots of interesting songs.
And I don't expect people to believe me that The Discovery isn't that great, because music is subjective. I personally do not like it as much as much as everyone else seems like like it. When it first came out everyone was hyped about it and going crazy. Then after a couple listens I realized how bland it was minus a couple songs. I still try to listen to it every now and again but its never blown me away.

Moreira - how do you have TWDA at a 3.5 but this at a 2.5? This is not nearly as stale and is a lot more fun due to how catchy it is.

Well, I happen to like TWDA way, way more. I've only put 2 listens on this though, I intend to come back to it soon. I remember it took me like almost a year to have TWDA going from a 3 to a 3.5 too. This doesn't seem to have nearly as much room for growth though.
