I'm expecting this to continue my trend of loving the odd numbered albums and hating the even numbered ones.

I didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I do. This is probably the best thing they've done since Jason left, apart from maybe the s/t.

I'm hearing a lot of Sainthood Reps, TBS, and BN influence on this album (probably from Sapone's pre-production) which is a good thing. I've never really been into Mayday Parade since their debut. It always seemed to pop-punky for my tastes. In my opinion, they transitioned from a trite poppy sound, to something much more organic and raw. The opposite of this is usually the case. I think that's why most debut albums are considered the best. After the debut, most bands tend to overproduce their sound, which just makes it one of the many, and not unique. However, with this album, Mayday Parade went back to a much more raw sound. Obviously, many current fans won't be please, as their taste is for the poppier sound. I however, can give nothing but a huge thumbs up for what they did here.

@fadedhero I completely agree. great analysis. I know you are obviously new here. What you said would be better at a sound off or if you expand on it, it would make a great review. Good discussion points regardless.
All I have really enjoyed by MDP is their debut and their self titled, but this album seems to resonate quipe a bit for whatever reason.

Well the debut and self-titled were basically the same cd lol. Yeah ABH was meh. I enjoyed Monstsrs though. It had their signature sound as well. But I'm loving this a lot. This is probably their best besides their debut, imo. I jam so hard to "Hollow"

This album isn't really geared toward emo-bangers, which is why it's quite polarized, but I like the sound in this.

I mean it as bangers like head-bobbing catchy choruses.. Like they've done in every other album
Emo banger as in banger from above with emo lyrics

Calling these guys emo anything without adding "pop" is always questionable

no way they really got rid of the emo-pop element on this one
this has a hard citizen vibe only better
|

Agrees but they've literally always been emo-pop
|
| |
Emo-pop is a more specific subgenre that crossovers pop rock, pop punk, alt rock, and lil bit of emo.
So basically this band in a nutshell.
|
| |
Emo-pop has its roots in Midwest emo, specifically the get up kids, but has since moved away from it.
Major players in the genre include jimmy eat world, saves the day, taking back Sunday, panic, fob, paramore, yellowcard, mayday parade, my chemical romance, and more.
If you need help distinguishing emo-pop from the others, look at blink-182's discog. Before the s/t, pure pop punk (and occasional skate punk), s/t = emo-pop with some pure pop punk in it, and the ones after s/t are closer to alt rock, but still a ill bit of the other two.
