That's an interesting release. I first thought it would sound the same everywhere, but in reality, it is really diversified.
But I prefer my funk when it stays more in the background, like in music of Red Hot Chili Peppers for example, they utilize funk to an extent, but it's never submerged of pure funk. When it's in the forefront like The Stylistics, I kinda lose interest on the run. But I confess it's a well crafted album with great musicianship, and I could possibly dig couple of the songs on here at some point.
I invite you to try Screaming Headless Torsos (you dug ''Free Man'' the other day), another band that is using funk without being a pure funk band.
Excellent review. You read like a real bloke ;)

I can see the appeal of this album, but to me, it's better in small doses. Some tracks stand out and are really pleasant, and some others are better like background music. I might bump up my rating to a 4, but I need to relisten to it.
