This was my first review so bear with me. Of course you can get more talented, it becomes clear these guys get more and more talented with each new album.

I knew this album would grow on me, it's up to a solid 4 just for Soria Moria and Stolas alone.

The more I think about it, this is probably the weakest STS album since Monument.

It's a great album, but nothing has stuck with me aside from the opener and Stolas.

"I think he means to say you can become more skilled in a particular field, but your innate level of talent remains the same whether or not you realise it.

Like, some people can pick up instantly what others work years to accomplish, but it doesn't necessarily translate into virtuosity if you still don't put in the effort sorta thing."

This sort of logic is exactly why talent is a fallacy. You have to put in the work if you want to see results. No one is born with the ability to create a masterpiece. This goes for music or any medium

I understand where you are coming from, but I think even in the case of "whoa, he just picked up guitar three weeks ago and he can totally fucking shred" there are external factors that people may not consider. For example, maybe the player has carefully watched guitarists that he was raised in the vicinity of his whole life.

i understand the argument, but you can become infinitely better at more than just technical skill (songwriting, composition, feel, etcetcetc)

obviously some people are naturally gifted at these things and others naturally suck but yea

Natural gifts are not a fallacy, they are just overrated. Obviously even the most talented man has to practice his butt off to become good in the field he's talented in. But it's also hogwash to tell me that everyone could be a Lionel Messi or a Jimmy Hendrix just by practicing hard enough.

Talent is innate and cannot be changed. The overall skill of a musician or whatever on the other very much can change. And yeah, even a talented musician, writer etc. can run out of stuff to do or say and become complacent and boring, that's another factor.

Jac basically already argued my case for me, but I thought I was gonna clarify what I meant anyways.
