He's right though, I'm halfway through and man, does it suck!
I hated the last one already but this one really takes it to another level: the band gets more and more focused on the sound itself, with more and more "subtle", perfected arrangements, and no substance at all. I hate to sound like "my future is living in the past", but there's nothing even remotely as immediately recognizable and unique as, say, "Loose Heart". They try to sound modern and they fail, because it sounds like countless other bands out there.
Not that Riverside's first records were terrific, but compared to their newest outings, they really seem so.

interesting, but I think that they've managed to keep their identity and find new elements. They're just different, mellower. Besides, repeating old achievements, would honor neither the first nor the last record.

Album starts slow, but Caterpillar and the Barbed Wire is pretty sick.

Kozieradzki lacks creativity. There was a lot of room for cool fills and patterns, but he really doesn't do a lot of interesting things.

"Besides, repeating old achievements, would honor neither the first nor the last record."
That's right, and that's why I also consider Rapid Eye Movement and Memories in My Head failures as well. I just wish they'd found a new sound that would be really new, not just an adaptation of the recently popular electronic alternative rock (which was the easiest way to go, really).
BUT the arrangements aren't my main concern, the real problem for me is, as I said before, "no substance at all". The sound may not be the most original, but it's the flat songwriting that kills the record.
@OmairSh Agreed, I think he gave up some time ago, not just now though.

Memories in my Head is a bit boring, indeed, but REM was a bit different. They made many changes. More synth sounds used, more vlean guitars and drums came quite to the front. It was more... rythmic and natural in sound I guess.

Title track is lovely I'll give you that.

New album is great - better than "S.O.N.G.S.", that's for sure - but it's not the same level of greatness as the first 3 albums are.. I love their melancholic, mellow songs, but I already miss some bits of heaviness heard in those albums - their best songs in my opinion are those where they mix the melancholic/slow parts with the heavy/metal ones, like for example in songs : "Volte - Face" (my favorite song from them), "Artificial Smile", "Beyond the Eyelids", "Parasomnia", etc.
P.S. what do you people think about the lyrics to the song "#Addicted" ?

That's what I thought at first. I really wasn't in the mood of listening to it. But then, when I didn't want to jam any of the other Riverside albums, I put it on. It just clicked. Fact is, there's no bad Riversdie album. For me, OOM is their weakest, but it's still above ''above average'' albums.
