dunno about you guys but i feel like this band is way past their heyday. that being said they are still able to write some quality music except this is their best release since heir and they've been getting much better with both their last releases so that's entirely wrong and you should feel ashmaed

Politely disagree; while the review doesn't discuss much of the music, it does talk about the way it works ("it feels almost as if that instability is what fueled the record to be so carefully written / the shorter length feels right; it's material worth working with"), and the way the album impacts the listener ("the better you get to know these songs, the more you are able to rely on them - they might come to you when you feel distressed, or even when you just need an escape from everyday concerns / it operates with chords only, ones meant to evoke some sense of comfort in spite of the sensation of feeling lost or alone"). It's something that most reviewers here forget about, and honestly, it's enough for me.

i read reviews to get a sense of the album. this is just generic buzzwords thrown together.

would rather know what the album sounds like. i know nothing of what this sounds like based on this review.

i don't know why you'd come to a review to get an idea of how the album sounds

for me a bad review would be one that just describes how the album sounds/compares it to other artists. this review gives a nice insight into the feel of the album even prior to listening.

"this is just generic buzzwords thrown together"
-Such as?
"i don't know why you'd come to a review to get an idea of how the album sounds"
-But you got what makes it work, and what the concept / artistic vision is behind the EP.

It honestly has nothing to do with the length of the review. I'm all for concise reviews too. Too often people overstuff their reviews with extraneous descriptions and useless information. My problem with this is it's a poorly written review. "The act of acquainting one's self to a clearly deliberated album is a unique sort of commitment- it is the beginning of a relationship with the musical ideas of another, concepts which are as fleshed out as their creators intended them to be." The opening sentence alone is so cringe-worthy. The very definition of fluffy, needless wording to sound deep. "Deliberated" doesn't even make sense in that context. Word salad.

I'm sure Jacob meant that Suis La Lune didn't make this album without thinking carefully about what'd be the layout and how they'd approach it, more so than most other bands regularly do.

how does he know that? lol

Definitely have to agree with the generic buzzword assertion. This is a pervasive problem in critiquing just about anything. It seems people are focused too much on prose instead of actually discussing the themes, sounds, moods. I'm personally not one for this kind of purple prose, especially when it doesn't cohere.
