Pink Mist is quickly becoming one of my favourites too - I love how (especially considering their 'day job') they're so sparing with the guitar use on this record - and when they do throw a solo in it's beautiful.

It's not something I can just pick a track or two off to listen to individually - has to be the whole album at the moment - it's just so lush!

Question to parksungjoon - what bands out there today are doing stuff like this? Not asking out of disbelief but I just simply wasn't aware there was much else around!

It's hard to believe that they managed to go all out on the 80's synths and don't sound cheesy or dated at all.

That's the thing, I've just got such mad respect for the record doing it so tastefully without it turning into a cheese-fest.

Coulda easily happened but it's just so well structured.

Timecop1983 is the only one I can think of that does this genre in such a... poppy fashion I guess is one way to put it. Maybe Trevor Something as well?

Most go either for a more aggressive synth sound, or for pure instrumental ambient. (usually albums will feature both sounds)

Check out Perturbator, Lazerhawk, Mega Drive, Carpenter Brut, Miami Nights 1984 and Ex-Machina.

I praised the vocals before and I think, while the instrumentation is brilliant here too, the fact they seem sincere and emotional (Kitsune especially and Shadow fury come to mind) really make it tasteful and non-cheesey.

But yeah the whole album just sounds so wonderfully and carefully crafted.

I don't know to what extent I can agree with that, but I'll have to give it a few more listens.

No problem, mate. I absolutely love this kind of music, so I'm happy to spread the word and help it get a bit more attention. Some of these artists absolutely deserve it.

I don't really like the 3 remixes at the end, other than that its excellent.

Agreed, the remixes did nothing for me at all - which surprised me...

the black sun on the horizon one is pretty sweet just cause its like a more upbeat version of the song. I really dig miami nights 1984, but yeah that remix doesn't do much in terms of standing out. still a dope track tho

this type of retro 80s worship is my biggest softspot, so it's no surprise i enjoy this, but even then this is really good

About 5 spins in, and I have to say this is a great album overall. They masterfully walk the line of cheese, and only cross it occasionally purely for effect.
