for sure, but many of the tracks feel way too similar (in longing literally just feels like listening to the previous track again, for instance)

but i wish it wasn't quite so one-dimensional and simplistic in its songwriting.

Literally the only thing which points more to a 4.5 for me than a classic 5. Even then, it's a speck of a flaw.

i think the track listing has something to do with it, similar tracks being lumped together (the first three, in longing and withdrawn etc). had they been swapped around a bit it would have worked better.

I see where you're coming from. Right now my stand-out favourites of the whole album are the first two songs and the closer, but I think there's something to love in every song at least. Just more in some than others I guess.

I don't usually listen to doom but I vaguely remember liking these guys years and years back, so I will have to give this a listen.

"Shape of despair are not a very heavy doom band, if you want something more hard hitting then check out Ataraxies lastest album."

I was talking more about emotional than sonical heavyosity but ty for the rec anyway

I remember checking slow transcending agony years ago and recall it as being good but pretty straightforward doom-death

Is their latest effort moar varied?

I thought Ataraxie's latest was their best by a fair margin personally, it's an absolute monstrosity. Highly recommend

2 tracks in and It's not too bad. 2015 metal is way behind compared to 2014 metal though

In Fennoscandia, the main church of a diocese is known as a Church of Doom (domkyrka, tuomiokirkko, domkyrke).

So yeah, excellent stuff here. I can't help bit feel it's a but too dare I say...monotonous?

I agree with Noctus (for once), it's all very good but lots of stretches just sound way too similar to each other.
