I wasn't a huge fan of his vocals on Altered State honestly, this on the other hand he is fantastic in.
|
| |
ill prob enjoy him even more on this then

He's a great vocalist but his vocals fit here far better than they did on Altered State.
I love both albums though.

hmmm I found this to be pretty bland and generic, and I'm a real sucker for ambient, atmospheric stuff. I shall give it a few more gos later

Some cringey lyrics and generic songs here, but every now and then there's a "wow" moment. Sort of on the fence about this one. Great vocals though.
This one seems like a grower.
Also: no idea how, but I'm only learning now that he quit Tesseract, who hired Dan back on. WHAT? A YEAR AGO?!

Wait did he seriously quit tesseract again? lol

he quit TesseracT a while ago dude, they got their first vocalist back.
|

That's fucky because it feels like under a year ago that I saw Ashe perform with them. Some people weren't fans but when I saw them live, he was superb. Fit really well. But it looks like June 27th '14 he quit!
Listened to a bit more of this and it's definitely a grower. Love some tracks, despise others.

I wish Ashe would lay off the vocal effects here.
Ashe is even more pop driven than he was on Altered State. No doubt he is applying the principles of his solo career on this project.
Still not sure if I like this record.

'I wish Ashe would lay off the vocal effects here.'
It can be a bit much but sometimes it works well, like in the middle of Meteorites. After a few listens it definitely is a grower. Anew and Epicnium (howver the hell you say it) are filler for sure, tho are some 'that was pretty sweet' moments sprinkled throughout.
Devil's Advocate is easily my fave, still trying to figure out that intro drum pattern.

Linkin Park used Oppenheimer's speech better IMO. It's kind of awkward that they used it since it was already done on a well known record...

Linkin Park don't own the right to use it. Plus I doubt a lot of people who listen to this band give a crap about Linkin Park.
I totally agree about the vocal effects Drummerboy. They work quite well in Meteorites. I think that's the only place they work for me though. I almost want to vomit when I hear them in Inner Child.
I have always thought of vocal effects as cheesy and unnecessary. I think most vocalist would agree with me because I don't hear them very often. When I do, the song is generally built around the effect and it's executed well. Working in amature audio I've found people generally use vocal effects to cover up poor performances. Ashe doesn't need to cover up anything!
Anyway, I'm loving the record! Been listening to non stop despite having such an indecisive opinion when it released.

4:58 onwards in Devil's Advocate is easily my fave part of the whole album. This has grown on me so much since I first heard it. It was like a 3 and now it's getting to a 4 for me.
