Beyond excited to hear this, can't imagine it being any less than solid given his past. Great review too, I've always had trouble reviewing an album when the artist shifts his approach significantly, but you did a killer job.

Wow sowing. You need some kamasi washington in your life. Just sayin.

I enjoyed this immensly, far more than his last album, although there is to much reverb on some songs.

remains to be seen whether i like this more than there's no leaving now but that album certainly grew off me. not sure why, but i've heard live versions of songs off of it and they're waaaaaay better than the album versions.

the production is god awful and Timothy and Beginners are bad. I like the rest, though

Did sowing hack Jac's account and post his first nondeath metal review for an indie folk album??

Was wondering when this was gonna get a review. Nicely done Jac

I think I like this more than his last album, but not as much as shallow grave or the wild hunt. love the lyrics too

I've been wanting this guy to change his sound up a bit and distance himself slightly from his Dylan blueprint. So yeah looking forward to hearing this.

Having said that, I'm a little sceptical about how much I'm gonna like this after hearing the two songs I've already heard from it.

Shallow Grave is one of my fav's. And I really like this too. Love the change of pace. Some songs are a bit forgettable but others are fantastic.

its just all this fucking doubt

I don't think this album is too different from his previous work as you frame it. Matsson only included percussion and some strings to only half the songs, Darkness of the Dream, Slow Dance, Sagres, Timothy, Dark Bird is Home. The other half is the usual flair from Matsson's earlier stuff in my opinion. Also the new stuff would sound exactly like his old material if it did not have any percussion or strings involved.

some tracks definitely sound like they coulda been on his last couple o albums but holyyyyyyy fuck stuff like "Timothy" and "Sagres" are crazy different to his old stuff on a very foundational level that's much deeper than just which instruments he used.

I love Tallest Man he's the most consistent artist I have heard from the last few years.

The first few listens of this I really didn't think much of it but in the last week it has grown on me immensely. Only complaint (like others) is the use of reverb.

I am looking forward to seeing how the songs that feature more instrumentation fair in a live setting and whether he incorporates the band into any of his older songs.
