The drumming is probably why the band is labeled black metalAnd I also miss the flamenco guitars to but like I said to me it is made up for

I also fan girl over the band because I was astonished with the aurora veil in 2008 when I first hard it and everyone else I knew loving the crap a7x did not believe they were going any where and look at them now and how positive most of the feedback is

I loved the production on this album.

Oh, and good review. I am not smart enough to give out much constructive criticism. 7.6/10 ~ IGN

I have tried really hard to like this album, but after 4-5 times it does practically nothing for me. It just sounds like standard over-produced death aping 10 year old trends in progressive. With a few gimmicks thrown in, like the strings and the cleans. I will keep trying but I'm running out of patience; a bad sign for a 45 minute metal album.

> gimmicks like the strings
I hope you don't mean the violin.

I do. It just doesn't seem integrated into the music in an interesting way other than a few moments in the interludes.

I strongly disagree with the apparent majority opinion: this album pales miserably next to Portal of I. It's chock full of hideous, atonal passages duct taped together with jarring transitions. Even the violins are frequently dissonant and ugly. It's like Ne Obliviscaris was actually trying to prove the sophomore curse is real.
I can rock Portal on infinite repeat for hours but I cannot sit through a single play through of Citadel without feeling genuinely disappointed and unhappy. This is, for me, unquestionably the biggest let-down of the entire year so far.

I ONLY rate albums based on how much I enjoyed them And I brought up the point that this still Ne Obliviscaris but with a much different approach that should not be looked at in the same way as portal of I, whole new album and experience just with the Ne Obliviscaris sound

An I will admit I did like portal of I better But when I try to think objectively about it none of the trade offs they made on this album were Not that bad

This is only slightly better than portal but it's better in every aspect.

I immediately liked this better than Portal because I can enjoy it in a single sitting. Portal is so long and chock-full of similar but unrelated songs that I have to break it up to appreciate it.

I slightly prefer Portal. Blackholes is their best song though.

It's whether you prefer a bit more dynamic or a bit more consistency, that's the main difference between Portal of I and Citadel

As Icicles Fall is still my favorite track by them. That violin from 8:12 to 8:19 in Pyrrhic, though...unf.

Painters Pt. II is still their best song, so good.

Pyrrhic is my jam. The intensity of the build up and the emotion on that song is just masterful.

This was such a snooze fest.

Still can't believe it took me this many years to finally listen to these guys after hearing about them all the time. Every one of their albums is filled to the brim with amazing pieces/segments/riffs. So fucking good.
