So sad to see these guys continuing to piss on their legacy.
We Have The Facts, Photo Album and Transatlanticism were all so amazing, but the more albums like this they release the less that'll continue to matter... and the more people'll write them off as, as you said, "just another indie band."
Especially with all the incredible releases coming from right and left this year, this is just devastatingly disappointing.

Every time I hear songs like "Everything's a Ceiling" and "Good Help (Is So Hard to Find)", I seriously wonder if bands actually aspire to be featured on muzak stations. This electro-pop thing is getting old.

The saddest part is that the redeeming features here are all Chris Walla's doing

Been spinning Black Sun all day, fantastic track. Never really got into these guys, only started to dig in a little more after the Postal Service. Maybe I'll buy this since the only album I got from these guys is Transatlanticism.

Narrow Stairs had some amazing individual tracks but just like this it suffered from some real inconstancy. Last I checked (admittedly a while ago) there were some real snorers on that one
|

this album is pretty decent, not too familiar with these guys but this is certainly encouraging me to get familiar
haven't decided on 3 or 3.5 yet. Fantastic review, though!

imo plans was the last enjoyable record from these guys
|

Great review tho!

Had high hopes for this album, kind of bummed after reading this. I was another one who thought his emotional turmoil would improve the music after the last two albums

This gets a 3 from me to start. Really digging Little Wanderer and Black Sun, but a lot of this album is just kind of happening.

"but a lot of this album is just kind of happening."
I can agree with this, but I had super low expectations for this record and I like what they put out. There are more songs on here that I enjoyed then Codes and Keys.
