For you guys harping on the headphone/speaker line, I'm kind of an audiophile. You'd be shocked at how many albums out there aren't produced to take advantage of great speakers. There are tons that seem made in order to avoid people with cheap Skullcandy or whatever from "missing the experience" and as a result the albums are compressed and overproduced like crazy. This one takes FULL advantage.

what are you talking about? in terms of compression this still isn't very good measuring at a DR8 (some of them DR7), barely a step above your average brickwalled metal mess

also considering the mix is muddy with very little channel separation i question your claim

there really is no weight to your argument that this takes advantage of 'high end speakers' and honestly you just come across as pretentious and needlessly judgemental of the setup people decide to use to listen to music

i don't mean to be hostile to him personally but i'm sick of hearing about having to have a certain setup to really enjoy something, i think it's nonsense

"there really is no weight to your argument that this takes advantage of 'high end speakers' and honestly you just come across as pretentious and needlessly judgemental of the setup people decide to use to listen to music"

I listen to a ton of albums, and some simply aren't produced in a way that makes them sound markedly different between cheap speakers and good ones. Off the top of my head I remember Nile's latest sounding like a plasticky mess no matter what, same with Hour of Penance's Sedition, even a handful of post/black albums don't really "wake up" when making the transition.

I don't give a rat's ass what anyone uses to listen to music. You could use your iPhone sitting on the bed across the room for all I care. It's your music, listen to what makes you happy. Hell I actually DOWNGRADED my headphone setup to what I have now. I'm not out here saying you "should" spend $X000 on headphones or whatever. Listen to what you like. I could not possibly care less.

But I will absolutely comment on an album that "scales upward". If you're struggling with the instrument separation then that's kinda your problem because man I can hear every ghost note and pluck of a string. And if you think my praising the album for its production is pretentious and judgmental... that's also your problem.
