Album Rating: 3.0
This album is a real mixed bag for post-Alissa The agonist. The loss of that particular vocalist is evident, but it's not exactly scarred the band's future either, as songs like "Gates of Horn and Ivory" and "Disconnect Me" prove. There are some songs with great ideas here but which also seem too rushed ("Perpetual Notion", "Architects Hallucinate") and songs with really weak musicianship but are obviously and confidently written for the masses ("My Witness, Your Victim", "Danse Macabre"). My rating suggests otherwise, but overall I think this new album to be slightly above average-but only just. It's like half of the album I can really get stuck into at the best of times, and the other half I just can't get around because of the obvious flaws.
Also, Vicky's vocal delivery is pretty shaky here. On some songs she can really let herself go and prove impressive, and on others her range is piss poor.
