I'm not sure what it is, but despite the vicious production job it rarely actually feels raw to me, and I have no idea why. I really enjoyed it, but there's something off that I can't put my finger off that clashes between the production and musical sides. I've only given it one full listen through so far though, and they absolutely nail their builds. Sitting around a 3.5 for now

Just saw this, CtD. I agree, love the production but there is something different about it that I can't quite put my finger on. It's definitely an unique sound.

I'm late on this one. Hoooooly crap. This album is glorious.

What it seems to be doing on the production side is keeping instruments clear, but all of it has that "fuzz" of lo-fi production. So you still get the hazy atmosphere but it doesn't sound like a glossy production. The drums don't sound triggered (probably are, but who knows), it's like they did a lot of the standard ticks of modern production EXCEPT the exact clarity.
