As I thought. Adopting a similar attitude is most definitely not ripping someone off, nor is it overly derivative especially when the voice is completely different.
Coverdale is responsible for some great vocal performances. Not everything should be measured in influence. A vocalist doesn't need to bring anything new to the table to be a great singer.
This for example is a fantastic vocal performance regardless of whether it's original or not:

I totally respect your opinion with regards to disliking his vocals though, that comes down to personal taste.

David, despite the inevitable Plant comparisons, remains an awesome singer. There are similarities between the two, but also obvious differences. Assess David based only on this comparison is clearly insufficient and unfair.

There are hardly any similarities here though so it's certainly unfair to base criticism of him during his DP days on comparisons that came later in his career.

@JamieTwort But the influence isn't the point. The attitude is. And one singer, to be considered great, and phenomenal needs to have his own. Even weaker , technically speaking, singers like Jagger and Dylan, put their own stamp in their songs, their own style. Coverdale doesn't do that. He just imitates the general, hard rock paradigm without putting any of his personality into it. I have seen the video you posted before; it doesn't change the result. Great technique? Hell yeah, he's damn fine! But when we are dealing with a supposed legendary singer. I need a bit of personality. And he doesn't have it. Feeling? Well, this is personal, and he is only mildly rousing. But bottom line is he is, to me at least, a boring singer to listen to. It's like he opened a book titled 'Hard Rock Singing For Beginners' and learned it by heart. It seems more like an exercise in hard rock delivery ( a well executed one, anyway) but little more than that.

I'm ok with all of that, it's your opinion, it's just the inaccuracies of what you were saying earlier that I was arguing against.

And even though we disagree with Jimmy, his review was helpful in having an interesting conversation. So it's all good.

Yeah people, tastes are tastes and I hope no one got offended in anyway. Plus, as Manosg said, it was an interesting conversation. So cheers

Yeah, it's all good to not like this album. I think Loveless is a 2.5 so no worries.
