Gangway has actually really grown on me, easily the best track here

Most of this album is easy listening as fuck, and there are a few cheesy cuts, but I still enjoy it. It's a relaxing listen. I think that's what they were going for, so I say it's a success. Based on the merits of the album though, it's just barely above average. Like a 2.8.

Yeah this grew on me a little, maybe like a 2.5 or something, but honestly I won't go back to it for more than 2 tracks so...

Just read your review, so your frustration makes more sense now. Yeah, if this album is supposed to be heralded as some kind of major transformation, then it's certainly laughable.

I think they just meant that it's a major transformation for them. It still is a transformation, but they're a talented band that I think could have really done something unique and awesome. Instead, we get like Shins b-sides with some echoes and ambient guitar. I dunno, for a defining change it just feels uninspired.

'Lost And Gone Forever' is one of my favorite records by anyone. I haven't been able to get as much into anything else these guys have put out, but I also haven't heard 'Ganging Up On The Sun' yet.

Lost and Gone Forever is a stone cold classic

Where exactly is this whole "transformation" thing coming from? I've followed the album on pledgemusic since it was announced and watched their studio preview and I've never once heard them say this album is a transformation for them. They talked about how it was a different experience recording the album. But never did they say this was going to be a brand new sound or transformation album.

I dig It Is Just What Is Is, but a lot of this album is just lacking. Definitely not on par with classic Guster.
