Nice review.
I love it how complaining about CGI has become the new thing to say to sound cool, old-school and part of the elite. The CGI in Godzilla was great and the franchise needed some revigoration of the kind. I love The Thing's practical effects but CGI can be good too. Also, I'm tired of hearing people complain about the fact that there only is a big fight at the end of the film. It's not as if nothing happened before and as if the fight wasn't awesome partly thanks to the fact that it is delayed for so long. I thought it was a bold choice to make and the only thing that prevents the film from being truly great is the expressionless main character (which sadly is a lot).
Also, about Gojira now, am I the only one to find l'enfant sauvage dull ?

It's their worst for sure, but it doesn't mean that it's bad or something.
I'm hyped for new one, but they've said something about new Panteraish riffs and sound, so I hope that won't be a case.
Please don't do Pantera.

no ones saying the movie was bad or anything, it was entertaining. but they used CGI for everything, if youre a seasoned movie goer youll notice that most of those look fake as hell, godzillas face for example, looked fucking horrible
doesnt have anything to do with old school or being elite, its a legit complaint since hollywood does overuse CGI nowadays, thats a fact

I haven't heard Terra Incognita, but I thought L'infant Savage had some good moments. The chord range became quite repetitive, but I still enjoy a number of songs from that record.

@Shuyin
Yes Hollywood overuses CGI but when they use it to create a giant monster which destroys a city I don't exactly feel like it isn't justified. Plus, why should CGI be perfect ? Why be tolerant with older special effects that were obvious and not with new ones ? I'm not a fan of CGI but I find the discourse against it a bit hypocritical. If two Godzilla movies had been made in 2014, one with CGI and one without, which one would have been enjoyed the most by the public ?
I dislike CGI when they make babies (Twilight 5000) or animals (Indiana Jones) or euh... some other things. I used to like drawn backgrounds a lot like in blade runner. Anyway.
