Anyone who thinks this is Opeth being adventurous and branching out really needs to have higher standards.

"i wish my favorite band would never evolve and keep churning out the same ol' crap"

Yeah, you know, why keep making albums in a unique style that you helped pioneer when you can make music in the style of '70s prog that's been beaten to death? They do a good job of building a red fire engine here, but there's already a lot of red fire engines out there.

Yeah, this isn't bad or anything, it just sounds dull to me personally.

the main problem with this is that 70's prog bands handled their own style so much better, this just feels second rate tbh

You could say the same about The Raven That Refused To Sing, but it did it much better.

It wasn't just trying to imitate 70's prog, it put a new spin on it.

Yeah this was a big step back in that regard but obviously Heritage was more adventurous than another typical Opeth album would have been. That album's not even a rip off.

Also, Raven isn't really any better than this, it's probably even more boring tbh.
