The drums sound roomy? Maybe the bass drum with its (what sounds like) lack of muffling. Now you got me wondering whether my kickstarter backer download is lower quality or something. Either way, stuff like drum sound is very much personal preference.

honestly, this isn't the album i was hoping for after Drew's dramatic exit/return. while definitely possessing many interesting moments, there's too many lulls in between to give the album a cohesive feel and not to mention the last 3 songs really drag. i'm not sure how much i'll actually return to this album

i really dug the album on the listen i gave it, but i totally get what you're saying. its sad when a prog band throws away the raw emotion in favor of cohesiveness, its such an easy pendulum to swing too far.. eidolon's got those parts that should never work on paper but drew makes them fucking work

Fair enough but the album has plenty of emotional moments. It doesn't have to be raw to have emotion.

it's like this for me, while Terras Fames was more straight forward and they've seemingly moved away from that with each album toward a more "proggy" sound, I've never quite understood what the hell Drew was singing about, but I've been enticed to try and figure it out because of all of the intriguing vocal melodies and instrumentation. This latest album just doesn't seem to have much of that for me. Some parts are good yeah, but some parts are just boring and it's like Drew is just whaling for the sake of whaling. a song like Pandora is something I would expect to hear from a dude that came back and rekindled his passion for signing. Vocally, a lot of the lulls just sound flat to me. Not enough good moments for me to see this as progression. maybe I killed it by listening to this after Eidolon lol idk, but their stuff should still be able to stack up against their previous works
I mean are you really telling me this is on par with Eidolon?

I think it's on par. Both have their merits to set them aside from each other though.

EDITED haha. Maybe a bit too far to say it's better, but I see this as being more mature in terms of lyrics and instrumentation.

Dunpeal I'm with you dude, I love Eidolon and was severely disappointed after listening to this. Found hardly any memorable moments and a general lack of direction for most of the songs, although the title and cover definitely made me skeptical before I even put it on. Might even drop this to a 2.5

I was a little underwhelmed with this at first. I think it's much less accessible than Feathergun or Eidolon, but by the second or third listen, it really grew on me and now I can't stop listening to it.
I think it takes some time to digest the song structures and lyrical content but I feel that this album is a real journey, constantly rising and falling to fit the mood.
Each to their own opinion though, I can see how this wouldn't appeal to everyone.
