Great review for this album, the 2.7 average on this site does not do this record justice.

This is probably my favorite of his, much as I love the trilogy

Decided to give this a full listen, liked it more than expected.

It's a really stripped down record, most of the theatrics are toned down and it's not as bombastic as most of his other outputs but damn is it a nice addition to his discography.

If I Was Your Vampire is definitely in my top 10 of Manson songs.

I found Evidence to be one of the weaker tracks on this.

Evidence is really good and HSG is one of my favourite post-trilogy Manson songs

This album almost destroyed my fandom but it's grown on me a bit over the years... Tim Skold is really MVP on this thing, his solos are fantastic. End of Red Carpet Grave goes so hard.

Honestly never got the heat for this album. Much more interesting than the recycled, stale sound of high end of low

It's because it was such a step-down lyrically. Instead of cutting insights about American life and the human condition, we got treated to relentless heart-on-sleeve girl-pining. This version of Manson is rather puke-inducing imo but there are some good songs and moments on the album.

Golden Age was far worse lyrically, and was the departure from American life though. It's just this one is a little on the soppy side.

Golden Age has some of his best wordplay so I beg to differ.

"So I memorize the words to the porno movies"
You're right, that album is full of great lyrics...

I still don't even see anything particularly interesting with his wordplay either. A serious dip in quality from Holy Wood.

Fair enough. Spade, Doll-Dagga-Buzz-Buzz and Kaboom Kaboom all have fantastic lyrics. There's a lot of repetitive, crude, sexual lyrics throughout the album but they fit with the debauched themes. (s)AINT I guess is really annoying and stupid, I'll give you that one.

I still dig this album. Time has been kind to it. High End of Low on the other hand... well, it didn't need time to turn into shit.

I haven't listened to it in quite some time, but it upset me a lot when I heard it the first time. I loved basically everything he did up until this point. I'll give it another go.
