Both were decent. Nothing special, especially not compared to the stuff they've done before, but there are some really good tracks on them.

Both are pretty meh. A couple good songs here and there. Haven't gotten around to listening to this yet.

I hate this band but I love this review

Personally I think this is only slightly better than Endgame.

This IS only slightly better than Endgame. While Appeal to Reason did cut out almost of what made Rise Against who they were in order to have accessible mainstream hits. This in turn made a shallow album that seemed like a lot of B-Sides bundled up with hits. Though it did have more energy to it and some iconic Rise Against elements in it (Whereabouts Unknown for example) so it wasn't that bad.
Endgame on the other hand totally forgot what Rise Against was and they tried way too hard to be as mainstream friendly as possible. The political commentary was tired, the constant use of cheering and shouting was annoying, the music was pretty bland while most of the highlights were overshadowed by really bad lyrics, every single song was verse, chorus, verse, quiet build up in crescendo, and then fade out, and everything was forgettable. It was awful.
Now this album on the other hand sounded miles better, the writing was good, and the kinda pop punk feel to it was great. The problem is nothing here is memorable, there isnt much energy behind this album and it just feels like it drones on and on. Hell, I have most of this album on my phone and I couldnt even tell you what song was which because everything is just so forgettable. Though honestly its like:
Appeal to Reason > Black Market >>> Endgame

I can't say anything about this album, haven't heard anything brsides the lead single yet.
On Appeal Vs. Endgame though:
The big problem with Appeal To Reason is that apart from a few stand outs (Savior, Re-Education) most of tge tracks on it sounded like a tired and lyrically uninteresting re-hash of its three predecessors. The songs sounded very much alike, reminiscent of earlier material, but too often they lacked the energy that made Rise Against great. Especially because those rebellious, critical lyrics sound nothing but tired. Actually I think it's good they finally left that whole, well, literally "rise against" thing thematically on Endgame. Without that power it is just useless.
You can say all that about Endgame too. But to me it seemed way more diverse, had some new ideas - for better or for worse, depends on the perspective - and while Savior is still my favorite RA track, songs like This Is Letting Go, Broken Mirrors or Wait For Me, albeit incredibly cheesy (RA was always cheesy, not that much though) are better than anything else I find on Appeal To Reason. I really think it sounds less forced and even if it is far away from punk it is still entertaining mostly.
