what are some recs for me if i randomly put this on and loved it? i really dig the mood of the album, and i'm eager to hear more albums that may do similar things. love the haze of reverb

I'm in the same boat as Omaha I love this but would like to hear more stuff like it
And not just more Grouper b/c I'm pretty sure nothing by her from her prior discog tops this (based on a casual listen of her older stuff)

yay thank u dear =]
for sake of my curiosity, what don't you like much about this? out of context the album seemed pretty hard to dislike, at least on the first spin.

I don't think it's awful or anything, just much prefer other loosely related stuff. First reference there would be the guitar based and more folkish Draggin a Dead Deer Up a Hill and from there a few of Natural Snow Buildings works, most notably The Centauri Agent.
Julianna Barwick is also an example of an artist doing something similar but with more exploration of textures through voice layering.
The best way to put my struggles with this album is probably that the piano is simply to dominant and that ain't my jam.

if you're just looking for other takes on the whole "play slow, sing fragile" premise

probably not exactly what you had in midn though

and although straight up folk and imo not similar at all, ichiko aoba's 0% tops this by a couple infinities

i see- thanks for the lengthy response. that does make sense, altho one of my favorite parts of this record is the choice of piano used so prominently. but i'll still check out your recs when i find my headphones and letcha know!

Liking this a lot, although it's nowhere near the level of Alien Observer and Dragging a Dead Deer...

Yeah I can see this being pretty polarizing for some fans. I like this a lot but it's definitely bolstered due to personal reasons

I think this is a 3.5 for me. It's hard to rate something like this. How do you rate "pretty" on a 1-5 scale when there are so many "pretty" albums out there? Music is hard. Her voice is nice, though.

Prefer her style on Dragging a Deer.. and AIA. Good listen though.

There's so much more to this than the extent of its "prettiness." Do people even listen to music anymore or do they just skim two or three songs and then make statements?
