Such a disappointing record.

Really? I thought it was a pretty good improvement

jim, check out mechina. they aim for this kind of sound but pull it off much better imo

The albums length is an issue made evident by its lack of dynamics - unfortunately that means it's hard to listen to right through.
I wouldn't call it a disappointment though - I still think they have made progress and I'm glad about that, but they have yet to reach their full potential.

Tried Mechina. While their music was cool I don't think they are nearly as interesting as xerath. They sound like more or less the same as Fleshgod Apocalypse. Which is cool and all but I'm preffering the Pantera grooves of Xerath!

Infact, Mechina's orchestral parts seem slightly higher quality than Fleshgod's, despite not being signed to a big label. Interesting!

I will agree with that, you're ears are a little tired towards the end!

ironically veil pt. 2 is easily my favorite track on this, mainly cause it sounds different from everything else

Heard their first album 5 years ago and thought there were one or two decent tracks but the second one was completely forgettable

Ambitious, epic and majestic in all the right ways, and yet Xerath's third album is never as self-indulgent as half-expected it to be. It's the perfect stepping stone for a sound progression from the band's previous two albums, and here it seems as if everything which made those particular albums so effective has been taken further a few notches. For me one of the best prog metal albums of 2014 so far, highlights being "I hold Domination", "2053", "Demigod Doctrine" and the two-part closer "Veil".

"I haven't heard anything interesting in metal for the last 5 years."
Haha wow, you must not listen to a lot of metal then

This is like Devin Townsend if he tried to play death metal but ultimately sabotaged his writing process just by nature of being Devin Townsend. Pretty fun symphonic riff metal so far, and I'm on track 6. I don't want to sit through 14 tracks of this, but if I were cut down to like 9 or 10 I could see it being a 3.4 or so.

Describes this album perfectly. Groovy, too. Been listening to this again the past couple days and it's impressing me more than before, but the issues I have with it still stand.
