A great album, nothing else to say. Its importance is outta-doubt. Even if my favourites were (and still are to this day) "Angel Dust" and "King For a Day".

Which one of you studs can teach me how to delete old reviews on here? Theres an Angel Dust review I wrote for a remastered version (which had its own section for it at the time) that got lumped in with the other reviews of the regular version that's gotta go.
Ive been underground for a while and wanna get back into writing and do fnm's entire discography and, just maybe, get back to the prince reviews I kinda abandoned.
Feels good to be back, its only been well over 3 years....and thanks to all for the kind words. And for those who said it was too long, consult with your doctor about adhd and the many benefits of Adderall.
And to DrGonzo, that's a badass Snake avatar. MGS!!

Overproduced? I don't quite agree with that. I think it's aged better than Album Of The Year by a long shot. Patton's vocals weren't that great, but in some songs, he rules.

You really think The Real Thing has aged more gracefully than AOTY? To each their own of course, but that's an....odd argument. The final 3 Patton-FNM albums pre-Sol Invictus are simply timeless to me, whereas The Real Thing just has that layer of unnecessary gloss which makes the album sound thin to me. Thanks for the comment, and thank you for reading especially.
But onto some great news that was recently announced, The Real Thing will be re-released with a fully remastered make-over (which I stated in my review I though was desperately needed), and I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted with it again. Hearing it again for the first time, if you will. A remaster was wayyyy overdue, and the differences will be night and day. Angel Dust is getting the same treatment as well.

I think the Real Thing holds up just as well as all the other discog. Plus this has War Pigs, so.

I'd love to hear this album remastered. A multi layered track like the t/t will really benefit I think.
This albums a one off, nothing else they recorded sounds much like it - and I like it for that

Great news. I've been waiting for the FNM remasters as my copy of Angel Dust went walkabout over 10 years ago and I always hoped to replace it when they gave it the delux anniversary treatment or whatever

Agreed hard. Love the t/t too. Epic is the worst on here though, personally.

I can't help but constantly hit repeat on Underwater Love lately. That song is just amazing from all angles. Ever since I first listened to this album that fateful night back in 1999 that I spoke about in this review, I always come back to it a couple times a year and leave amazed each time. I'm waving my FNM fanboy flag hard with this, but I don't care. Makes me happy that there's more than likely some kid out there discovering FNM for the very first time as I type this. There's a reason this band's popularity still continues to grow.
