I enjoyed it quite a bit, even though at that point I was mostly unfamiliar with the material they played (Map Ref and some track from Chairs Missing I don't remember right now were the only ones from the first three). It was my first club gig though, so that could be rosying up the memory. Good but not mind-blowing would be my verdict.

I did look into tickets for them in the last year or two but recent setlists seemed to suggest there was gonna be very little in the way of classic period Wire, with the exception of the Pink Flag t/t and one or two others, couldn't justify dropping 25+ quid on it.

Yeah, minimal classic Wire unless you're flexible enough to count the Change Becomes Us material which is mostly fashioned from what they were floating live at the end of their 70's run (Document and Eyewitness stuff).

huh, I figured most of the stuff they were writing when touring became the basic ideas that would evolve into what's on this LP. As far as I know they didn't tour very long after the release of this before calling the hiatus, perhaps I'm just ill-informed or not sufficiently researched tho

Yeah I mean the majority of songs on last year's Change Becomes Us first surfaced in Document and Eyewitness in a set from February 1980 (I guess one of their last ones?) roughly half a year after this was released, so considering how prolific Wire were at the time and how work-in-progress the tracks sound on D&E those could reasonably all have been created after 154. I mean Change Becomes Us was basically advertised as "the lost fourth classic Wire album".

Enjoyed reading through this.

Oh yeah this was an inspiring if quite challenging read due to the sometimes unwieldy sentences. Though it could be the frantic pace of Wire's progression in those years grabbed a hold of the author's pen.

Thanks fellas, don't write very often at all so it's nice to see some complimentary words.
Grabbing Change Becomes Us now if I can track it down.

IDK why they didn't release that as a single it had potential to be massive
Damn, been like a year since I wrote this up already.

Damn, I never saw this review. Quality write-up, thoroughly enjoyed that!
I haven't listened to this nearly as much as Pink Flag, although I finally picked up a physical copy of this a couple of weeks ago so I'll be jamming quite a bit.

Ugh, it feels like it's been ages since I last posted here - 8 days...
This album's really interesting though, quite a few songs have a real gothic touch to them.
