everytime i hear of a band coming back from years of silence, alwais pop in my mind Illud Divinum Insanus (nice latin by the way -.-) rofl...
I had low expectations about this, but... since Songs of Moors and Misty Field is a piece of my heart, i had a glimmering glimpse of hope this could be somehow a decent album.

@DarkNoctus Songs of Moors and Misty Fields was the first time I ever heard black metal so the band had a pretty huge impact on me as well. Ode to Melancholy is probably one of my favorite doom songs ever.
Even if it's not as good as previous records I still managed to enjoy this. The production sounds fine to me, The gutter "metal" part definitely strikes me more as shoegaze than metal so the "wall of sound" I think is how it should sound. The different layers of guitar and the tremolo picking in that song is one of my favorite parts of the album actually.

songs of moors and misty fields is doom metal, not black metal, but yeah, it was a very impactful album for me as well

Holy shit! New Empyrium?
How did I not know about this? I'm hoping it's better than this review says.

Great review. I am gonna check this out soon.

This review definitely bums me out. I had such high hopes for this.
I'll still probably check this out. Their previous albums are all so good, so I feel this at least deserves a chance.

Going to listen to this soon. Recently listened to Weiland and I really liked that record.

I don't usually dish out 1's very often but it's been a shitty, shitty week for metal. I mean, Opeth was enough but this was so painful to get through. Abysmal!

Not a single moment on here struck me as anything past "holy fuck this sucks". Listening to that song again because I obviously missed something. I think I'm just so shaken up by new Opeth sucking such huge amounts of prog-penis that it's put a damper on my listening filters. Kind of like that episode of South Park where Stan turns 10 and turns into a cynical asshole hahaha

Your disappointment of Opeth is obviously clouding your judgement on this. I can sympathize with the 2.5 rating for nostalgia reasons but below that feels a bit over exaggerated and a 1!? It's the same as saying music can't be any worse than this.
I feel as if I'm one of the last on the crew that enjoyed this. It's making me sad.

Pretty much that bad. But I admitted that the new Opeth album has clouded my judgement (maybe) and I'm willing to give this another shot.
And don't worry, I feel your pain on lonely love for specific albums. Just take a look at my ratings.

Damn Wiz I love the new Opeth. :[
Just downloaded this though. Songs of Moors and Misty Fields is still the only thing I've heard from these guys and I've always loved it. Going into this with an open mind.

Crysis, you ever checked Tenhi? Gotta listen to Maaaet if you haven't yet

Tenhi has been my go-to depressing folk band for about 3 years now. Their compilation album is my favorite actually, it has a ton of unreleased songs and alternate versions that are really good. Like so:

But yeah Maaaet is equally wonderful.
