Metallica is probably the most competent thrash band, and although I don't listen to this often anymore as a result of an eight grade obsession, I can honestly say that it is my favorite album by them. It'd be even better if Hetfield would have had the vocal style of the black album on here. His voice can be a tad too high at times. at least for my tastes.
excellent review.

I agree, the only way this album could be better is if Hetfield's voice was deeper.
Still Metallica's finest hour.
Good review, but please, everybody knows how great this album is by now, can people please stop reviewing it and maybe churn out something useful, like a few more Panic! At The Disco or Trivium reviews instead?
Cheers (:

I've heard Dream theatres version of MoP, and they Miss out so many chords in the riff, so it just sounds like a standard metal song.

For me, I much prefer to listen to the black album.
I listened to MoP all the way through today- which is the first time i have listened to the songs back-to-back... i will say only this: "Wot the hell?"

you prefer the Black Album!!!??? lol well ur entitled to ur opinion i guess...its just cus MoP is too heavy for you spammy and you cant handle metal in it's purest form so you go for the mainstream choice.

no doubt about it the greatest metal album ever! every track's brutal and pounding, the album is the embodiment of metal. Battery and Damage Inc are my personal faves tho, I mean, just wow!

Actually I agree with spameister. Like if you took one song from this album and compared it to a song from the black album, the song from MOP would probably win. But i find all in all too many songs on this album sound the same. While the Black album has a wider variety of songs ranging from "Nothing Else Matters" to "Sad But True". Both are great albums tho

This album is wayyyyy over rated. It was in 1986, it still is in 2006.

there is no way that this album is overated it is heavy as F*** and the solo's kirk plays are pretty mind blowing and the fatc that this album is from 1986 and it still recieves this much attention pretty much solidifies it as a classic album, go metallica

I wouldn't call it "heavy as fuck", but it's still heavy. AJFA was Metallica's heaviest album.

Lars Ulrich is along with Ringo Star probably the most overrated drummer ever. good review, although I don't understand why everyone likes this album so much.
