Really great first review man.
Personally I loved this, and Dead Winter Days isn't even my favorite track on this. Even that track has barely any trace of their folky doom/black stuff left. The atmosphere is exceptional, though I agree some ideas could have been expanded on.
Also, In the Gutter of This Spring is basically an Anastasis era DCD song lol. Specifically reminds me of the track Amnesia

Thanks a lot!
People keep saying this sounds like Dead Can Dance. I feel so out of it never hearing their music, I should change that I suppose.

You should man. They're probably in my top 10-15 bands. You'll definitely hear the similarities, along
with noticing the countless other acts who tried to recapture their magic but never quite managed it

Dead Winter Ways wasn't my favorite either. I'd have to re-listen to pick a favorite though, they all sounded pretty good.

I've added them on my very long list of albums to get to Keyblade hah.
I honestly think watching Empyrium's live Blu-ray last year helped me grow appreciation for this album cause they play Dead Winter Ways and Days Before the Fall, and that live concert is one of the best I've seen. Just the atmosphere and everyone's emotions in it is magical.

Gonna get this for sure. Weiland is one of the most amazing pieces of modern non-metal music I've ever heard. If this is half as good it will be awesome.

It's not really like Weiland except the track "We are Alone" is very much like the piano pieces at the
end. I'd still recommend it though.
If you like Weiland you should check out the track "Der Weiher" that they had on their Retrospect CD
if you haven't heard it before.

this isn't even good dead can dance, it's budget dead can dance at best without any good vocals, melodies or atmospheres throughout aside from dead winter ways
the rest are just unmemorable and lazily written with very little payoff in any of the tracks. i was really hoping for more dramatic moments ala dead winter ways but it didn't really happen and oh my god do the vocals get tiring, the lyrics aren't particularly good and the delivery is so monotone and tryhard
also the metal parts (in the gutter especially) just sound like a wall of compressed noise, not sure what they were thinking production wise on this thing. the whole thing is just a mess.

Honestly, Dead Winter Ways is one of the least memorable re: being dramatic. And when it comes to melodies, In the Gutter really stands out.
