Since I always check 2 Fela Kuti albums in one sitting, I went with Shakara and Alagbon Close for this time around

Yeah, think I agree there. The strength of the b-side is a huge selling point (as elsewhere there can be a quality discrepancy).

I say this, as Roforofo Fight does not in fact have one (which in the context of their supposed popularity discrepancy, I find surprising). The t/t over there is such a jam.

True. I listened to a few again & as much as I appreciate the historical context of Zombie, I’m still leaning towards this, Rofo & Sorrow as my faves
… sounds silly, but the weightiness given to a recording by it’s history is a double-edged sword in many ways. Importance doesn’t necessarily correlate with quality and knowing the backstory can actually result in a less enjoyable experience (tl;dr - Zombie is almost TOO heavy)
and no, pls don’t give me similar stories about this lol
