@SeaAnemone

yes, you are right I usually listen to more spazz, avantgarde, black metal or hardcore stuff than to post-punk.

But on the other hand I absolutely LOVE everything "Have A Nice Life" did so far and the reason why "Have A Nice Life" is lightyears better than Swans is that they know how to write songs, Swans definitely do not know this. This is all of course just my opinion, but you and no one else can take this away from me.

@menawati

for you this is not awful, for me it is, I guess we all can have our own opinion here or not?

Such an objective rating. What is your opinion anyway? Why a 1?

i suppose i guess it's down to how you use the ratings, id never put something at 1 that i think has artistic merit even if I dont like it

agreed but your opinion is silly and based on really limited experience with this type of music so other people should definitely take it with a grain of salt bcuz it doesn't seem like you can back it up very well : ]

I think I said why this is a solid "1" for me, it is boring, more boring and even a little bit more boring, it is repetitive and more repetitive and Swans never could write a good song, at least in the past they did not make albums that are beyond the 2 hour mark.

Well I only rate albums a "1" if it is sheer terror for me to get thru them, if i can see not one single positive point and that pretty much fits this Swans album as almost all their other albums I had experience with.

My experience with Post-Punk is not limited, i just prefer other genres more, but you can be sure I really dig some post punk bands, like "Have A Nice Life" or "Joy Division" and you should see my Avatar and username, Amebix also partly fits into the post-punk genre, but I cannot be angry with you SeaAnemone, as you have the most amazing tv-show ever made as your avatar!

I need to give this a listen. I picked up "Feel Good Now" on a whim a few years back and I'm not sure that was the right place to start. It just didn't click. Is there another album that would be a good starting point?

Yea bnelso, get Soundtrack for the Blind. If you don't have enough time for the whole thing, at least listen to The Sound or Helpless Child.

DelPaxton- Thank you. I saw that one was pretty well liked around here. I'll give that a try.
Swans seem to have a thing for long albums, but I'm sure I can make it through "Soundtracks.." at least once.

Soundtracks is their best, but not the place to start since it's pretty much a culmination of everything they were capable of. I would start with The Great Annihilator since it's one of their most accessible.
